Installation and repair
I install air source heat pumps, and I service, repair and maintain them, whoever fitted them. That covers the plumbing side: cylinders, pipework, radiators, flow rates, system water, filters and controls. I'm BPEC Level 3 heat pump qualified.
An air source heat pump sits outside and feeds a wet heating system. The heat goes to radiators, underfloor heating, or both, and to a hot water cylinder. I cover this from High Lane. The areas run across Stockport and Cheshire, and up the A6 into the High Peak.
New installs
It suits a house being built or extended, or a heating system being changed over. I look at the radiators, the pipework and the hot water before I say if a heat pump is the right job.
What the job involves
- The outdoor unit, sited with air around it and a solid base
- Pipework into the house, and the controls
- A cylinder for the hot water
- Radiators or underfloor heating, checked so the rooms still heat at a lower temperature
What I check
- Where the outdoor unit can go, and how the pipes get inside
- Whether the radiators or the underfloor can heat the rooms
- The cylinder, the valves and the controls
- How you will run it day to day, so it is set up before I leave
- Tell me about the house and send photos of the heating and the hot water.
- I come and look at the system, the space outside, and what the rooms need.
- I fit the outdoor unit, the pipework, the cylinder and the controls, and I test it.
- I show you how it runs before I leave. If a gas boiler has to come off, that part is a Gas Safe engineer.
I've fitted Mitsubishi Ecodan, Grant Aerona and Vaillant aroTHERM heat pumps.

I don't do boiler or gas work. Taking a gas boiler off the wall is a Gas Safe job. I don't do refrigerant work either.

No. I don't do boiler or gas work. If a gas boiler has to be removed, you need a Gas Safe engineer for that part.
Can a heat pump run radiators or underfloor heating?
Yes, on a wet system. I check the radiators or the underfloor first, so the rooms still get warm.
